Clear Your Browsing Data and Re-Set Your Bookmark
It's a little late, but I'm finally switching over to the Winter Training tab as the default home page, so if this page continues to come up first when you open uccrosscountry.com, then you'll need to re-set as per above. We'll be on the winter training tab for another 2-3 weeks until I switch us to the red track and field tab. Too much work, I know.
Great Day to Run 10+ Miles!
Some of the boys set a new standard today, running to the glider port and back, adding on the brutal trail run down to the beach and then back up. Nice work! The precedent has been set and what looks like a great goal for next week is now on the books!

Saturday Run at San Elijo Lagoon!
We're switching this Saturday's run from Mission Bay to San Elijo because there is going to be a major marathon race at the bay Saturday morning that will close many of the parking lots and restrict access to much of the bay. We thought it would be a good idea to not fight it and switch to a place that WE LOVE: San Elijo. We are meeting at 8:00 a.m. Directions can be found on the left blue tap.
Sunday, the athletes running in the Coronado 10K should plan on meeting at the starting area before 6:30 so we can be sure to get a parking space and have time for packet pickup. Each runner will also have to sign a waiver at that time. See you all there!
Let's have a great weekend. You're training has been awesome and it won't be long before we get to show off a little bit. Enjoy.

Coronado 10K Information
This is a great event and has become our default team race to show off a little bit and test our fitness after a great season of winter training. It's not too late to register HERE or click the banner below for more information. My good friend who is part of the meet management staff has given us a team discount. Ask one of the coaches for the discount code (We don't want to put it up here for non team members to hijack). Parents are invited to use this discount code as well. Let's get a great group signed up ASAP.

Saturday Run at PQ EAST end!
First of all, congratulations on a great week of training. All of you that conquered the Fartlek workout on Thursday should be very proud of yourselves; we got in some great tempo pace work and some hefty mileage at the same time. This will set us up well for the upcoming weeks. Tomorrow we are meeting at PQ from the East end, which is at the far end of Canyonside Park off of Black Mountain Road. I put directions up on the left, so I hope to see many of you there. Don't forget we meet at 8:00 am on Saturdays, not 8:30.

David Berard Running the Carlsbad Marathon!! We'll Be There To Cheer Him On!
We are going to meet tomorrow morning at 6:00 A.M. SHARP at the Starbucks on Carlsbad Blvd. just north of Carlsbad Village Drive. Directions below. The marathon starts at 6:15 and the Starbucks is just past the 2-mile mark, so David will be there before 6:30. From there we'll jog down Carlsbad Blvd., past the power plant to Palomar Airport Road to see him return somewhere around the 15 mile mark. At that time, Coach Chuck and Renee's brother Conner will be just starting the Half Marathon and heading our way. We'll jog back to the coffee shop and cheer them on as they pass. Then we'll wait for David to return at approximately the 24-mile mark. At this point, Chuck should just be catching up to David. THE BET IS ON! Who will arrive at the Carlsbad Coffee House first, David or Chuck? My money is on David. Who's with me? Pick a side and join us at Starbucks at 6:00 a.m. I know it's incredibly early, but nobody has worked harder than David, so let's show him how much we can support his efforts. (We will start at Starbucks because they open earlier, then we'll return to the Carlsbad Coffee House which is two blocks farther north on Carlsbad Blvd.)

Great Job at San Elijo!
We were back at San Elijo for another GREAT long run. We have a solid core of runners getting in some awesome training, so be sure to be part of this group. We're finishing up week 4 (see the chart below), which ends the "green" period. This is important as a baseline to judge whether or not you're ready to move on to week 5 and then step up to the higher level training. Get it done. See you tomorrow.
It's Winter Training Time!
Here's the training schedule we've all been waiting for. How will you progress? Remember the philosophy of FARTHER and FASTER and off we go. This is a great time to up the long runs and the pace for a great build up to the track season. I hope you're all rested and ready, because HERE WE GO!

Huge PR's at State! Elise Boisvert #2 All-Time UC
It was a cold morning that brought out the best in our kids at State this past weekend! The girls finished a very respectable 16th place in the first race of the day that saw temperatures hovering in the high 30's at race time. That didn't stop them from setting huge PR's on the course, led by Elise Boisvert who went on to finish 17th in 18:17, which is the second fastest time ever run on the State course by a UC runner. Niko Chapman and Allen Siegler ran big PR's in the boys race finishing in 21st and 26th respectively, running season best times of 15:43 and 15:53. Overall, it was a very good day for the team. Footlocker here we come, more ready than not. (Check out Mike Boisvert's pics of the day below). Results are on the right under the red Athletic.net tab and under the blue CIF State Championships tab below that.

Girls Qualify for State!
Here are some great photos from Mike Boisvert at "Green Forest Productions". I'm sorry to get these up so late. They are wonderful shots, so check them out and experience these great races again. Next subject: We're off to the state meet, so check out the State Championships information and the trip to Footlocker next week. It's going to be a great next several days. Wish us luck in Fresno, and then plan on a great day at Mt. SAC for the West Regionals to cap off our fantastic season!

A Great Day at the Western League Finals!
Despite a pervasive sickness that had staggered a majority of the varsity boys, the UC harriers did everything right on a picture-perfect day at Morley Field to notch many new PR's and earn a bankroll of top 15 medals en route. The boys lost a tough decision to the Dons of Cathedral Catholic which resulted in a tie for the Western League title. Congratulations to our class runners of the year, Niko Chapman (senior) and Elise Boisvert (sophomore) and the rest of the team close behind for a fantastic day at the races and a wonderful way to cap the end of the season. Congratulations also go out to JV Western League Champions sophomore Alex Bustos for the boys and freshman Isabelle Shepherd for the girls. Check out the results under Athletic.net (click the red box to the right) and don't miss Michelle Atkins' great photos of the day below. Thank you all for a great season. Now we're on to CIF this Saturday. Girls Division 3 Championship race is at 8:30 and the boys D3 race will be at 9:40. Good luck and I hope to see everyone out there.

JV Day at Morley Field!
Wow! Huge PR's all around on a great day at the Morley Field course today. The varsity teams had a bye, so it was up to the JV squad (skw@hd) to showcase what it means to be a UC Cross Country Runner! Results will be up on Athletic.net very soon. In the meantime, check out these great pics by Michelle Atkins and Emma Campbell:

Awesome Day at Mt. SAC
We had a great showing at the World Famous Mt. SAC Invitational yesterday, posting some great medal winning performances and setting ourselves up very well for the championship portion of our season. For now, check out the results and pictures below. It was a great day. The team continues to progress at every level, and I must say, I saw many smiles out there yesterday AFTER the races. "Run Up Hill!" I like it.

Boys Beat Cathedral!
The UC Cents had a banner day yesterday on the Morley Field layout for the second week in a row during our big dual meet match up against our biggest rival Cathedral Catholic. It was the "Significant Others" that carried the day: Our girls JV squad notched huge PR's all around, some well over a minute improvement over last week. The victory for the boys varsity team was only clinched in the final meters with Alex Halter, Ryan Kueker, and Jack Gallegos each passing a key scoring member of the Dons in the final meters, sealing the victory. The official results are up on Athletic.net (red tab at right). Check them out, and click on your athletes name to bring up his/her complete racing history so you can see how much each athlete is improving. It's impressive, and it's not stopping here! Expect huge PR's every step of the way for the next 4 weeks as we head into our championship season. Thanks for the great support. Check out the photos of the day below

Woodbridge Invitational at the Irvine Great Park
BEFORE READING ANYTHING ELSE: it is very important that ALL drivers enter the park from Trabuco Road. You must exit the 5 freeway at Jeffrey (past the park, I know) and then head east/north to Trabuco. Turn right and head south into the park and park on the runways (they will be charging each car $10. Bummer). You CANNOT enter the park like we did last year, from Sand Canyon to Marine Way. They will ONLY let buses in this way and you will be turned around!
So.....On to the good stuff! This should be a VERY exciting night, packed with lightning fast grade-level races and culminating in the running of the boys RATED race for us later in the evening. The course has changed a little bit from last year! Looking at the map, only a few bends and straightaways have been slightly altered, but it looks super exciting. Check out the information sheet below with some of our very best marks over the last 25 years. Your goals begin here. Also, PLEASE sign up for something to bring for the potluck dinner on the link below. Have a great Friday, and look forward to a fantastic race on Saturday!

We had a great first day of racing yesterday at Lindo Lake Park which saw the UC squad mix it up with some of the best teams in the county, giving us a great chance to see where our current fitness is and gain valuable experience on the racing front. Great job, everyone! Now it's back to practice Monday morning because "the only easy day was yesterday." Click on the link above for full results and on the pic below for Mike Boisvert's great shots of the day.

Welcome to the 2015 Cross Country Season Page
Information for the Vaquero Stampede is below and meet information is at the link on the right, so check it out. See how well we did last year, and see where you should be this year. Get on that BEST MARKS list! The links on the right for each meet currently have results (Vaquero has much more!) from the meets from last year. I will change that to an information page as the season gets underway. Before that happens, though, look at last year's results to find your best marks for each meet so you can plan on and measure your improvements throughout the season.
I will also have a link (promise) to the camp pictures that many of you have sent to me. If you haven't yet, get those pics up on a website and send me the link.
For now, don't forget the parents meeting next Wednesday. The season schedule is also linked on the blue links on the left hand side of the page. Good luck this season. Lastly: Let me know what you'd like to see on the cover page of this website. It's here for you, and I want to make as user friendly as possible with hordes of information, everything you could possibly want to know. Thanks for being a devoted fan/team member.

Vaquero Meet Information for Saturday
Here is the meet information for this Saturday. Please meet us in front of the gym at 6:10 a.m. Saturday morning. We will carpool to the meet, which is relatively close by. We do need parent drivers to transport the kids, so plan on participating in this wonderful event. Athletes: check out the sheet below as a guide to where you might fit in to the front end of these races. We have to set our goals high, don't we? Remember that last year, our goal was to focus on "PROCESS" and not "OUTCOME", which means you are thinking more about HOW you are going to get there, instead of WHERE you would like to, or need to finish. That means I want to see some BIG risks taken BEFORE half way in the race. No thinking allowed after that point. Let survival instinct get you to the finish line!
