"Summer Nights" Track Meet Tomorrow

We need your help! We are helping manage the meet at Cathedral Catholic HS starting at 5:00 p.m. with registration, and running events beginning at 6:00 p.m. This is the first meet in a series of four, held on Wednesday evenings for athletes of all ages. This meet tomorrow will be very exciting because there will be many athletes seeking a qualifying mark for the Olympic Trials held later this month in Oregon. We will be done by 8:00. There are only 5 running events and 4 field events. Please let me know if you can help. You will get service hours for your time. Click the logo below for meet information.

Western League Championships:

WOW! Jessy joins an elite group of athletes becoming the fourth girl in the 31 year history of the school to break five minutes, and the first in nine years. The whole state of Georgia only has four who've broken 5:00 minutes! Meet results are on Athletic.net on the right. Watch the video of the race here:

Thank you to everyone that helped at Mesa College

We had a phenomenal group come to Mesa College on Saturday to help out with the Southern California Junior College Track Championships. It was a beautiful day and we got to see some amazing athletes compete. The coaches at Mesa could not stop complimenting how great all of you were. Thanks so much for donating your day to help

Check This Out!

Watch this archived video of our great win in the DMR at Mt. SAC in 2009. Mac anchored a 4:03 mile to win it! Phenomenal. Our boys ran the 7th fastest DMR in California history and number 2 all-time San Diego. The commentary is a little lame, especially at the end when they add how remarkable this feat is considering UC is not a strong distance program. Huh?

Looking Back

Check out this great historic piece on Mac Fleet at the beginning of his senior track season. The interview has some good pieces of advice and gives a good description of his mindset during racing and training.

Check it out. Click the photo at left.

Boys and Girls Track Teams Beat La Jolla!

It was a great win today, with every athlete contributing to the final score! Congratulations UC. The bragging rights begin. Results coming very soon. Look on Athletic.net (right) later tonight or tomorrow morning for results. Be sure to thank Coach Hutsel for uploading everything onto the site each week.

In the meantime, check out Riess' 3200 race at Arcadia. Watch carefully his position throughout the race. There is a perfect place to be at each moment, and first place only counts at the end:

Willie Banks Invitational on Saturday

The meet schedule and entries are included here below. The meet will run in a traditional dual meet order with the addition of teh 4 x 800 which will go first, all beginning at 9:00 a.m. We will meet at UC in front of the gym at 7:00 a.m. This should give us enough time to get there before we have to warm up. Remember that the entries were put in some time ago and are just place holders for the most part. I know that some of you can't make it, and some others will be switching races. No problem. This will be a relatively small meet, so it's a great opportunity to WIN some races.

Practice at 8:30 this Week

We will be meeting at 8:30 each day at school this week during spring break. If you're in town, practice is mandatory unless you talked to me this past week about prior arrangements.

San Clemente Invitational is Back On! Tomorrow!

We'll be at San Clemente Triton Invitational tomorrow with the early birds meeting at UCHS at 7:00 a.m. for the first events: the relays and the 1600's. Click on the schedule and entries below to see when you are racing. You should be at the meet 1 1/2 hours before your scheduled race time, so plan accordingly. If you don't have a ride, you can join the group meeting at the school at 7:00 a.m or at 9:45 a.m.

Cathedral Meet Cancelled Due to MRSA Infection

Go figure. I've never been in this situation before but we make the best of it. The meet will be rescheduled for the last week of the dual meet season together with the St. Augustine meet. Bummer

Cathedral Meet: We're Ready!

This is our first league dual meet and it's the BIG ONE! Tomorrow is a little bit of a crazy day. The seniors are doing their presentations for the graduation requirement, and the rest of the school is out at 11:34. We will be leaving for the meet from school at 1:00, so we have a little time to relax and be ready for the meet. Parents, your athletes are allowed to go home when school lets out, but they must be back at school at 1:00 to carpool or take the bus to Cathedral.

The distance team entries are here (click to enlarge and print):

San Clemente Triton Invitational Is Back On This Weekend!

Details coming tomorrow night (Thursday). We will be leaving pretty early in the morning so we can be ready for the 1600's that get underway at 9:30. I'll have more after the Cathedral meet tomorrow. The original entries for San Clemente are HERE.

Irvine Invitational

This is our first big full track meet, and it's the first time we've been to Irvine, so this will be very exciting. It's a long day, so be sure to bring some food or money or both to make sure we eat while we're there. Rest up and good luck!

The Track Season Has Begun!

Get ready for an exciting new season as we begin competition after a great 12 weeks of winter training. The new track is only a little more than a month away, and if all goes well and according to plan, we will have a few races on it before the season has ended. Fast times at UC High are inevitable and we look forward to all of you being a big part of this great season. The meet schedule is posted on the left and on the right, and much more will be up here soon as the season rapidly progresses. For now, visit Athletic.net often. Coach Hutsel will have meet results up on the site, and you can find results, opponents best marks (including best marks from the league, city, county, state and nation!), and team schedules and entries throughout the season. We will also post pictures there as well as on this site.

Let's have a wonderful season
